Max Clinton Tomlinson was born on June 21, 1933, to Andrew Clinton and Ella Christine (née Green) Tomlinson in Corsicana, Texas. The family moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1939 to escape the heat and pollen of Central Texas and for Andy to work in the oil fields for Humble Oil. Max graduated from Hobbs High School in 1951 then attended college at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM. There he met and fell in love with a local ranching family’s daughter, Polly McKnight. He graduated top of his senior class at NMMI in 1956 and married Polly on June 2, 1956. They set up their household near Washington D.C. where he was stationed in the army. They subsequently moved to Fort Bragg, NC where son Max Clinton (Clint) Tomlinson, Jr. was born. Max then completed his active military duty but
remained active in the Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Captain. The family then moved
to Hobbs, NM where daughter, Mary Christine (Cristie) Tomlinson was born. In 1961 the family moved to Roswell, NM to join extended family in the Pecos Valley. Son, Mikell Andrew Tomlinson and daughter, Marlene Coral Tomlinson were born in Roswell. In 1969 Max completed a master’s degree in business at Texas Tech University and went on to work in the finance and accounting department of Texas Tech University and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, eventually retiring in August 1995 as the Assistant Vice President of Accounting and Finance. On June 2, 2002, Max and Polly remarried with their children and grandchildren in attendance. In the following 19 years they travelled extensively, including a world cruise and visiting all seven continents. Max and Polly attended innumerable grandchildren events, high school, college, graduate school, and medical school graduations. They experienced the joy of grandchildren weddings too. You could always count on Papa and Giggles (Grandma Polly) being there for every important event or get together of their children or grandchildren's lives.
