Margaret (Peggy) Pickering

5/24/1944 - 11/5/2020

Our souls shifted when Peggy, 76, peacefully crossed eternity’s threshold, ending 6 years of Dementia.  Her life will be privately celebrated.

Peggy’s passion and joy were her pets.  She stopped traveling years ago when an innocent dog-sitter reported her adored Shiatsu had not eaten, so Peggy never took her long-awaited Alaskan retirement cruise or even another overnight trip.  However, the dog ate shamelessly well for the rest of her 16 years, including year-round ice cream and late-night taco trips.

Henry & Irene Bargar, who predeceased Peggy, were her treasured parents.  They were decent, fierce, and stubborn.   Their characters were deeply rooted in Peggy, along with a mischievous sense of humor that never faded, even in the hollow depths of Dementia.  She worked hard to solidify her independence and ran her race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1).

Profound blessings were bestowed upon Peggy and her sons during her lengthy illness by support of every kind from their chosen family, including Paulette Harris & all four generations of her family; Phillip Van der Wege; Helen Dees; Bruce Sandifer; and Gerald Cox & family.  Special thanks for (answered!) prayers of the Poor Clare Monastery nuns.

Survivors are beloved sons, L. Allen Davis (Jennifer) of Owensboro KY, and Don Davis of Roswell NM; siblings, J.M. Bargar of Yuma AZ, Marion Lewis of Midland TX, and Vikki Smith of Roswell; and 5 nephews including William Smith of Roswell.  Peggy’s youngest brother, Mike Bargar, and nephew, David Smith, predeceased her.

For those wishing to memorialize Peggy, please do so by making an active difference in the journey of a Dementia / Alzheimer’s warrior who is still walking through the fire.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18   Therefore we do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Henry David Thoreau “Every blade in the field - Every leaf in the forest - lays down its life in its season as beautifully as it was taken up.”
