Lisa Tays

December 14, 1970 — February 1, 2020

Lisa Carol (Tyler) Tays

On Saturday, February 1, 2020, while at UMC Hospital in Lubbock, TX with her loving family by her side, Lisa Carol (Tyler) Tays, 49, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father. Lisa was a life-long resident of Roswell, New Mexico, a member of The First Baptist Church in Roswell, and graduated from Goddard High School in 1990. In 1983 Lisa was crowned Chaves County Junior Rodeo Princess. She won numerous belt buckles during her rodeo years. Lisa and her crazy horse BJ were famous for coming into the arena sideways. It was evident to all that they were a perfect match. She lived life fully and in addition to rodeo she enjoyed racing sports, was an avid hunter, a music lover, and an animal lover. Most of all, Lisa loved people and it showed through her work. Early in her adult life Lisa blessed others through childcare, and later she shared her heart with many through her work for the United States Postal Service in Roswell as a clerk and a mail carrier.  Lisa had a big, loving heart and didn’t know a stranger, she had kind words and a hug for anyone who would take them.  By far her greatest love was her family, and among the dearest to her were her daughter, sons, and precious grandchildren.

Lisa was born in Roswell on December 14, 1970 to Donald and Joan (Freeland) Tyler. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Taylor Lilly and husband Seth, and grandchildren Paisley Lilly and McCoy Lilly, all of Hagerman, NM; sons, Brandon Valenzuela, Brett Valenzuela, and Dylan Valenzuela of Roswell, NM; parents, Donald and Joan Tyler of Roswell; sister, Sharina Cureton and husband David; nephew, DJ Cureton, and niece, Reanna Cureton, all of Waco, TX; along with many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Lisa was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Flora Freeland and paternal grandparents, Thurman and Goldie Tyler.

Memorial services will be led by Pastor Gerry Chavez at Christ Church in Roswell, NM on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:30 am.
