Jeannie M. Davis

May 23, 1957-September 7, 2021

On September 7, 2021, Jeannie M. Davis passed away after a courageous battle with cancer she fought with both grace and dignity. She was born May 23, 1957 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Roswell, NM to Milton “Matt” Matson and Sadie Matson.   The family moved to Artesia, NM in 1961 and subsequently returned to Roswell.

Jeannie was dedicated to law enforcement. In 1976, she began her career as a records clerk/dispatcher with the Chaves County Sheriff’s Department and then accepted a position as patrol officer with the Roswell Police Department in 1982.  Jeannie broke the glass ceiling when she was the first female promoted to Sergeant. Upon retiring from the Roswell Police Department, she returned to the Chaves County Sheriff’s Department where she was employed for several years thereafter.

Jeannie met her soulmate Robert “Bob” Davis while they were both employed at the Roswell Police Department.  They were married on October 20, 1989. She and Bob were both active members of the Roswell Elks Lodge BPOE 969.

Jeannie is survived by her five children, Aaron (Cassandra), Alexa, Daniel, Bobby, and Tracie as well as a vibrant young granddaughter, Helena.  Her sisters Ida and Kay (Mark) also survive her. Jeannie’s fur-babies, Jessica and Digby are being well taken care of by her “third sister” Corina.

Jeannie was predeceased by her husband, Robert “Bob” Davis, her father, Milton “Matt” Matson, and her mother, Sadie Matson.

Jeannie truly loved, and was loved by, her numerous friends.  The family cannot adequately express their gratitude for their help in getting Jeannie through daily life.   From taking her back and forth to doctor’s appointments, bringing her dinner, flowers, books, or stopping by to visit.

Per Jeannie’s wishes, no services are planned.
