Georgia B. Schoenecker

Georgia B. Schoenecker, age 100, resident of Peachtree Retirement Village died after a brief illness.  Georgia and her husband, Fred, lived in Roswell for over 25 years. Georgia and Fred were married for 78 years when Fred died.  Georgia and Fred were married in Milwaukee, WI in 1940.

When Fred retired from Wisconsin Power Company after 27 years of service they first relocated to Arkansas where they lived for several years.  After living there for a few years, they decided to search for another place to live, one that would suit their climate needs.  After taking several exploratory trips they found and decided to give Roswell a try. The temperate climate suited their needs perfectly and they stayed.

Georgia and Fred became active in the community and served in several clubs and organizations in town.  Georgia found an outlet for her love of gardening.  Georgia became active in the Iris Society in Milwaukee and served for many years where she became a judge and traveled many miles judging Iris shows.  She continued that love for Iris’s when she moved to Arkansas and then to Roswell.  In Roswell she joined the Pecos Valley Iris Society.  She served for many years and met some wonderful friends who shared her love of flowers to.

Georgia and Fred contributed to several different charities and organizations during their stay in Roswell. They contributed regularly to the Boys and Girls Club, The Assurance Home, The Salvation Army and other charities that touched their hearts.

Georgia missed her husband Fred, very much and was able to join him in Heaven.  He wanted to live to be 100.  Fred didn’t reach that goal he passed at age 99, 2 months short of his 100-year birthday.  Georgia, however, did reach that goal.  She turned 100 on February 20th of this year.  She was tired and it was time. Heaven is beautiful, but I know Georgia has added some beautiful Iris’s in that heavenly garden.

Georgia is survived by nieces Karen Ann Johnson and Rae Ann Van Goethem, who both reside in the state of Wisconsin.

Private services will be held at a later date.
