Eva Jimenez

September 13, 1924 — December 6, 2020

Mrs. Eva Torrez Jimenez, a devout Catholic and matriarch of the Jimenez family, joined her loving husband and son in Heaven on December 6, 2020. Mrs. Jimenez had recently celebrated her 96th birthday in the presence of her loving family only a few months prior.

Mrs. Jimenez was born to Martin Lucero Torrez and Isabel Gutierrez Torrez on September 13, 1924, in Hondo, New Mexico.  She is preceded by her loving husband of 42 years, Raymond, and her oldest son, Ricky.

Eva was raised in Hondo, New Mexico, and graduated high school in 1942 from Hondo High School.  Upon graduation, Eva left for California to support our country’s World War II efforts as a laborer as part of the “Rosie the Riveter” campaign to assist our country’s efforts abroad.  She worked as a welder and welded guns on the giant U.S. warships.  She did this for two years and returned back to her family in Hondo.

At the age of 23 she married Raymond Aldaz Jimenez on December 23, 1946. They built their first home in Roswell N.M. and began to start a family.  She was the loving mother of four children. She was the center of her family and her love for her family was a deep reflection of her commitment to her faith and her love for our Lord.  She also was devoted to her parents and her siblings all through her life.  Her loving kindness and respect for other people allowed her to make many friends and some of them remained lifelong friends.  Her unwaning dedication and devotion to her children provided the foundation and inspiration to raise loving families of their own.  She left her children a legacy of love and respect and a deep faith.  Her family is comforted knowing she lived a full life blessed with God’s love and she is now resting with her family who has preceded her.

Her children:  Eva Ray Byrd (Jim), Lourda Barrera (Rick), Richard Jimenez (deceased) (Kaye), Ray Jimenez Jr. (Paula).

Her grandchildren:  Joseph Cobos, Maria Kawas (Camilo), Richard Luke Jimenez (Ana), Rachel Turlington (Will), Luis Santos (Cathy), and Daniel Avila II (Joann).

Eva had nine great grandchildren as well.  Eva was a disciplinarian but when she was around her grandchildren and great grandchildren discipline flew out the window.  That’s a big reason they loved their grandmother so much; they were truly the apple of her eye.  In her final years a visit from her grandchildren and great grandchildren always would fill her heart with joy and great anticipation.

Eva is survived by her beloved sister Patsy Torrez Turner, brother-in-law Billy Ray Turner and sister-in-law Dorothy Chavez Torrez.
