Wilma J. Jenkins was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 1, 1939, to Jack and Vida Barrett. She left this earthly home for a better life on December 28, 2019.
Jeani, as friends and family called her, married Robert L. Jenkins in 1956. They shared 63 years together, through a few hard times and lots of good times. As a young married couple, Jeani and Robert lived in Toledo, Ohio. They moved to Tucson, Arizona for better work opportunities and better weather.
Full of optimism and enthusiasm, Jeani and Robert relocated to Carlsbad, NM, where they opened their first business, a gas station and motorcycle dealership. New Mexico would remain their home, but they were drawn north. Soon they opened Quality Cycle, a motorcycle dealership in Artesia, then one in Roswell. They even tried a motorcycle store in Tijeras Canyon, east of Albuquerque. Roswell, however, had a hold on them, and they settled here. They continued to run Quality Cycle until they sold it, and A-1 Auto Salvage until they retired.
Jeani also worked as a receptionist in 2 medical offices in Roswell, allowing her to assist and befriend many people. At times, Jeani was active in churches. Always she was devoted to Jesus. It is not possible to count the number of people who were touched by Jeani’s compassion, generosity, optimism, and love. Perhaps you, the reader, may be one.
Jeani was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister, Marge Coates. During the time that Marge and Tom lived in Roswell, Jeani and Marge shared many adventures and laughs.
Jeani is survived by her husband, Robert, her daughter, Anastasia Montez (and Nathan Baca), her granddaughter Alicianna Baca, her grandson Santiago Baca, her brother Jack Coates, and her niece, Marisa.
Jeani’s cremation is entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home. No service is scheduled.
