Wilma Jean Fitzsimmons of Roswell went to be with the Lord on August 4 after a long bout with throat cancer.
Born in Garibaldi, Oregon, to William and Florence Taylor, Wilma had a full life. Along the way she had four sons with first husband Jack Phinney in California. Jack preceded her in death.
She moved to Juneau, Alaska, with her second husband, Bob Fitzsimmons, and worked with the Alaska state government and the US Coast Guard as a qualified safety instructor, pilot and office manager; She worked for several Coast Guard admirals and Commodores and received multiple commendations and awards.
From Alaska, she and her husband moved to Bangor, Maine, with the Coast Guard and FAA. After six years, they moved to Roswell in 1997, where she was active in the Assistance League and Trinity United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Phinney and Tom Phinney, both who live in California, and her second husband, who resides in Albuquerque.
She will be missed.
A memorial service will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
