William H. W.H. Ledbetter, 90 passed away on June 15, 2010 at Mission Arch Care Center, Roswell, NM.
W.H. was born on May 16, 1920 to Lee L. and Ola Ledbetter in Newcastle, Texas. W.H. married Mary Jane Downs on December 13, 1941 in Ft. Worth Texas.
After graduation from Newcastle High School, he attended Southern Methodist University where he starred in football while majoring in Electrical Engineering. He served with HQ 1st Btn, 136th Infantry during World War II throughout the Asiatic Pacific Theater. W.H. went to work for Gulf Development and Exploration where he and Jane with their family lived on many different continents and many countries of the world.
W.H. was owner of the Hagerman Continental Agency until he sold it in the late 80s. He later went to work for Carlsbad Irrigation District clearing saltcedars on the Pecos River, retiring in December 2006 at the age of 86. He moved to Roswell in 2007 and had made his residence at La Villa until January 2010.
W.H. was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hagerman, member of Hagerman Felix Lodge 29, Order of Eastern Star and had many other civic activities that occupied his spare time. His favorite past time seemed to be work and helping others.
W.H. is survived by his daughter Linda Winnat and husband Jim of Ozone, AR Daniel Lee Ledbetter and wife Phyllis of Hagerman, NM W.H. Bill Ledbetter and wife Kathleen of Parker, CO grandchildren Heather Carr and husband Robert Sydney Donohoe and husband Patrick Brandon Ledbetter and Colt Ledbetter: Four great grandchildren and his loving friend Imogene Lee of Roswell.
His wife Jane, parents Lee L. and Ola Ledbetter, grandson Travis Winnat, brother Leonard Ledbetter, stepmother May Ledbetter, and stepbrother Thomas Clowers, preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Hagerman at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2010. Rev. Stephen Deutsch will officiate. Burial has taken place at Hagerman Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made, in W.H.s name to the First Presbyterian Church 201 W. 5th, Hagerman, NM 88232.
