William "Bill" Thomas Batte, age 73, of Roswell, New Mexico, passed away on August 3, 2026.

Bill was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on January 26, 1953, to William Robert Jr "Buck" and Jessie Batte. Known to everyone simply as Bill,he carried a lifelong reputation for kindness, independence and a friendly smile. He went on to pursue his higher education, earning his bachelor's degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

Following the passing of his father in 1964, Bill showed immense love and selflessness as a devoted son. He dedicated his adult life to taking care of his mother, ensuring she was loved and comfortable for the remainder of her life.

Bill lived life on his own terms, creating a network of friendships and community ties throughout the Roswell area. He was a faithful member of Berrendo Baptist Church, where he found great fellowship and purpose. An avid reader, Bill possessed a lifelong curiosity and collected books spanning all types of literature. He also had a deep love for the outdoors, finding great joy in camping, hiking, and spending time shooting guns. His absence will be deeply felt by his church family and the many people who came to know him as a friend.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Buck and Jessie Batte; His brother, Donald Graves; and his sister, Barbara Wood and Melva "Janie" Hudman.

Bill is survived by his sister, Linda Becker, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a community of dear friends who will miss his warmth and his distinct personality, and his sharp wit. Memorial services to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00 am at Berrendo Baptist Church, located at 401 W. Berrendo Road, Roswell New Mexico, with Pastor Troy Grant officiating.

Graveside services will follow the next weekend on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1 PM, at James Canyon Cemetery, 2538 US Hwy 82, Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
