Wayne Haley

August 15, 1927 — December 12, 2018

Wayne Levi Haley passed away at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas December 12,2018. He was born in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, August 15,1927 to Elmer Haley and Ruth (Wall) Haley. The family moved to Roswell, N.M. when Wayne was six years old. There he lived his life with the exception of residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico for 20 years while working at the New Mexico School for Deaf. When he retired he returned to Roswell, making his home at the Haley family location.

Wayne was married to Betty Lenore Lee on July 11,1956. His Second marriage was to Gloria Sue Landaw April 12,1990. She survives him at the family home.

On September 18,1945 Wayne received his call to the Army to report at Ft. Bliss Texas. In March 1946 Wayne was shipped to Korea was there until January 1947 when he was shipped back to Camp Beal, California.

After Wayne returned to Roswell, N.M. from Korea he entered the Rodeo Circuit in 1947 and traveled to many different towns riding bulls, bucking horses, and Bull dogging taking his favorite horse Pepper. Both were injured several times always survived and returned to something he loved being around livestock. He won many events.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, going to Flea Markets looking at antiques. He had a booth at the Flea Market in Santa Fe for many years. Four children were born to Wayne and Betty Cindy (Robbie Cates), Sidney Haley, Debbie Stiteler, Tamara (Mike McFarland) and two step children JC Brown and Kevin Brown. He also had 11 grandchildren. One sister surviving, Doris Thornbro of Roswell. There are many nieces, nephews and cousins that he enjoyed so much especially his brother's 3 children Dwight, Jayne and Darryl.

Wayne is preceded in death by his father and mother Elmer and Ruth Haley; brother Glen Haley and 2 grandsons, Cody Haley, 26, and Richard Cates, 18.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Laylonie Drake. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
