She taught elementary school for 27 years, most of those being at Berrendo Elementary School, where she was a favorite of many of her students and staff. Following retirement, she worked as bookkeeper, and then most recently worked for the Department of Health, for the program, Healthy Kids Chavez County where she served as coordinator and for Healthy Kids Healthy Communities as state BMI surveillance coordinator.

She met her husband, love of her life, Kenneth Michael Fresquez. They celebrated 29 years of marriage this March. Tamara and Ken enjoyed camping, traveling, and kayaking in Big Bend. Once married, they gave birth to lovely twins, Elizabeth Kendra Fresquez and Alexandra Beth Fresquez in 1991.
