Sarah Frances Hendrix

Sarah Frances Hendrix celebrated 99 years of life this year, and passed away on December 14, 2006. Born August 7, 1907 in Aurora, Missouri to Ernest and Willie O' Kelley, Frances had two brothers Walter Vernon and Hurtel O'Kelly who both precede her in death. Frances attended McMurray College Academy and Texas Tech studying Education and Home Economics. After graduating, she taught first grade near Wylie, Texas.

Frances married Russell Rusty Hendrix on March 3, 1935, and they moved to Roswell. Together they worked at Hendrix Company and owned several other businesses through the years. Frances then worked in the Cobean's book department for several years before retirement.

Frances was an accomplished and well-known artist, and her paintings have won awards throughout New Mexico and Texas. She specialized in bringing vivid color and detail to her art, and particularly loved to paint the sky, whether they were clouds or sunsets. Those who love her will forever miss her sense of humor, compassion and generosity of spirit.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Sandra Kay Williams of Roswell and Doug Williams of El Paso; her grandchildren Patty Brand, husband Bill and their daughter Elena of Lubbock, Texas and David Williams, wife Christi and their sons Kyle and Evan of El Paso, Texas.

The family would like to thank her long term caregivers, as well as the Vista Care Hospice staff for their compassionate and caring service during the last days of Frances' life. Cindy, Laura and Stacy have been such a blessing to our family during this time, and helped to make Gram's transition to her new life a peaceful one. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Vista Care.

The family has chosen to have a private celebration of Frances' life this week. So, instead of attending a funeral, the next time you see a beautiful sunset, stop and appreciate it, for Frances is in heaven painting the brilliant sky with God's unlimited palette of color.
