Rufina Kimbrell, affectionately known as Ruth, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, in Garland, Texas, surrounded by her loving children. Born Rufina Guevara on February 2, 1937, in Arabella, New Mexico, she was a remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Having joined her beloved husband, Roman Kimbrell, who preceded her in death, she now rests in Heaven alongside him.
Ruth was a firecracker—an amazing woman who embodied unconditional love, patience, and empathy. She was truly an anchor and a pillar of strength for her family. Throughout her life, she taught the invaluable lessons of kindness, patience, perseverance during hardship, love, faith, and resilience. Her warm hugs, boundless love, and the comforting way she made every moment feel cherished and safe will be deeply missed. Her gentle voice, calling loved ones by name and offering wise advice, made her presence a perpetual blessing.
In 1953, Rufina and Roman were united in marriage in Hagerman, New Mexico, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in love and faith. She lived in Dexter, New Mexico, until 2020 when her sons lovingly relocated her to Texas, where she embraced her new home as a Tejana. Her life was a testament to her deep Catholic faith, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to the Immaculate Conception Parish in Dexter. Ruth’s kindness and steadfast devotion to her church and family were a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Ruth contributed to her family’s well-being not only through her career at Levi Strauss, from which she eventually retired but also and more importantly as a dedicated homemaker. She ensured that her family’s hearts and homes were nourished with thoughtfully prepared meals, homemade pies, and cookies, creating warm and lasting memories around the family table. Outside of her role as a mother and homemaker, she delighted in spending time with family and friends, engaging in games of cards, Aggravation, and marbles, visiting the casino, knitting, and making blankets. These passions were expressions of her generous and loving nature.
Rufina’s survivors include her devoted children: Raymond Kimbrell and his wife Gracie, Fred Kimbrell and his wife Tonya, Steve Kimbrell and his wife Doris, all of Texas, and her daughter Mary Garcia of Roswell, New Mexico. She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers Tommy Guevara of Carrizozo, New Mexico, and Lasarito Guevara of Capitan, New Mexico; her sisters Dora Trujillo, Gloria Sanchez, and Mary Lopez residing in Capitan and Roswell, New Mexico, respectively. Her legacy continues through ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren who carry forward her spirit and values.
Rufina was preceded in death by her husband Roman Kimbrell; her parents, Lazaro Montoya Guevera and Perfecta Marrufo Regalada; her brothers Aristeo Guevara and Paul Guevara; her sister Lucilla Sotelo; and two grandchildren, Nathan Kimbrell and Lashanda Kimbrell.
Those honored to be her Pallbearers are Anthony Garcia, Roman Kimbrell, Felix Kimbrell, Esaiah Serrano, Tony Serrano and Christopher Garcia. Services will be announced at a later date.
As we bid farewell to Rufina Kimbrell, we honor a life filled with love, faith, and resilience—a life that touched so many. Though she is no longer with us in the physical sense, her spirit lives on vividly in every lesson she imparted and every embrace we will forever remember. Her enduring legacy is a beacon of hope and strength that will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come. May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of the Lord she so faithfully served.
