Prestina Lathrop

Prestina was reunited with her Lord and Savior Jesus on September 18, 2016 in Roswell New Mexico. She was born in Hagerman NM on February 15, 1932 to Manuel Flores and Rosa Salas.

Prestina was also known as Christina but affectionately referred to as Tatina by her friends and family. When she was young she left school to work in the cotton farms, helping where she could, and delivered homemade tamales on the family horse. She spent many years working at Levi Strauss in Roswell where she was proud of the work she had done. She later received many accommodations for her work in housekeeping at Kennedale Nursing Home in Texas. Tatina always worked as hard as she could, giving of herself relentlessly to her job; a devotion of ethic taught to her early on. She married the love of her life Douglas F. Lathrop in Carrizozo NM on April 23, 1955. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death in 2008. They had four wonderful children together Mary Ann Byrd, Bobby J. Lathrop, Jimmy M. Lathrop and Lillian C. Nyhoff.

Presitna resided in Fort Worth TX for over 20 years living and working before returning to Roswell in 1997. Tatina reconnected with long lost relatives and friends. She loved to hit yard sales with friends and entertaining guest with iced tea and food.

Her heart belonged to her family who she cherished and loved deeply. She was a fully devoted follower of Christ and loved Jesus more than life itself. In all she did or wanted to do she did as the Lord was willing. She quoted by most as living by the saying, "the Lord willing."

She is survived by her children Mary Ann Byrd and Jim, Bobby J. Lathrop, Jimmy M. Lathrop and Terri, Lillian C. Nyhoff and Kurt; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; Panda her companion of 10 years. She is preceded by her parents, step father Cornelio Lucero, and husband; sister Prescilla Salas Torres; and brothers Gilbert Salas Flores and Robert Salas Flores.

A memorial service will be held Friday October 28, 2016 at 11am at Grace Community Church with Pastor Rick Hale officiating.

In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prestina F. Lathrop Memorial in care of Grace Community Church.
