Oscar was the cherished son of Galdino "Bobby" Barrera and Charlotte Bartlett Barrera, both of whom preceded him in death. Their legacy, defined by love and steadfast values, lived on through Oscar, whose kind-hearted spirit and devotion shaped the lives of all who knew him.

Family was at the very center of Oscar’s world, a commitment that shone brightly throughout his life. He is survived by his loving children, Oscar M. Barrera Jr.,of Lubbock, Texas, and Sandra Barrera, of Roswell, NM; his devoted sister, Shirley Smith, of Roswell; his supportive brothers, Jerry Barrera, of Dimmit, TX, and Steve Barrera, of Fontana, CA; his caring sisters, Rebecca Barrera, of Albuquerque, NM, and Frances Kennedy, of Lubbock, TX. Oscar’s life was anchored in these treasured relationships, and his presence was a source of strength, wisdom, and unwavering support to them all.

Family and friends are invited to honor Oscar’s life and legacy at a visitation on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ballard Funeral Home, 910 S Main St, Roswell, NM 88203. A graveside service will be held the following day, Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 am at South Park Cemetery, 3101 S Main St, Roswell, NM 88203, where Oscar will be laid to rest among loved ones.
