Ofelia G. Montanez age 83 went to be with our Lord on Friday, November 15, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at her bedside at her residence.

Mass for Ofelia Montanez will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 22, 2021 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Roswell, NM at 10:00 directly after mass services she will be escorted to Hagerman Cemetery to be laid to rest.

Mrs. Montanez was born on January 28, 1938 in Bosque Bonito, Chihuahua to Rodrigo Gutierrez and Catalina Cabrera from Chihuahua Mexico. Ofelia married Hijinio Montanez on July 22,1957 in Dexter, N.M.

Ofelia devoted much of her time and energy as a home maker and taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking and making her kids happy, she also enjoyed listening to music and dancing while making the best flour tortillas in all of Chaves County.

Ofelia is preceded in death by her husband Hijinio Montanez, daughter Modesta Vega, daughter Norma Montanez, father Rodrigo Gutierrez, mother Catalina Cabrera, brother Armando Gutierrez, brother Roberto Gutierrez, grandson Arthuro Morales, granddaughter Melissa Morales, brother Ernesto Gutierrez, sisters Raquel Rede, and Lidia Avila.

Survivors are her son Oscar Montanez and wife Fidelia from Dexter N.M., Danny Montanez and wife Andrea from Artesia, N.M., daughter Leticia Acosta from Roswell, N.M., her brother Juan Silvas and wife Jovita, brother Raymond and wife Carolina from Roswell, N.M., and sister Emma Sanchez and husband Manuel from Roswell, N.M., 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Edward Montanez, Hector Montanez, Santiago Montanez, Luis Morales, Marissa Morales, Alfredo Serrano, Julian Andavazo, and Herbie Rodriguez.

Honorary Pallbearers: Amy Montanez-Sanchez, Norma Vargas, Melody Quintor, Cynthia Morales, Roseanna Serrano, Corina Morales, Ruben Montanez, Danny Montanez Jr., and Nathaniel Montanez.
