Neadie Hoekstra
Neadie Hoekstra, 75, of Roswell, NM was called Home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday night, October 15, 2019. She went peacefully after her long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Neadie was the daughter of Alfred and Adeline Van Laar born in Long Beach, California on April 12, 1944. She was the oldest of four children, sisters Jean and Shirley and brother Larry Allen. Neadie married the love of her life, Louie Hoekstra, on April 21, 1961. They were married over 58 years and have four children; David, Darla, Doree and Daylene. They raised their family on the dairy in Corona and Mira Loma, California, where they lived until 2000, when they relocated to Roswell, NM to be closer to their kids and grandkids.
Louie and Neadie were charter members of Church on the Hill in Norco, California and now members of First Presbyterian Church of Dexter, where she loved singing in the choir and sharing her gift of being a servant. First and foremost, Neadie loved her Lord and Savior. She also loved her family so much and was so proud of each and every one of them. All of her grandkids thought they were her favorite. Neadie loved life and so many things; shopping, tennis, playing penny slots at the casino, bowling, waterskiing, trips to the beach, shopping, planting flowers and working in her yard, cleaning, singing along to The Everly Brothers and Elvis with her grandkids, girls trips, and did we say shopping, especially for animal print and bling. She is survived by her devoted husband Louie; her dear sister Jean Hammett; her son David Hoekstra (Sheri); daughters Darla Breedyk (Arie); Doree Figueroa (Tim) and Daylene Gohres. She is also survived by her eleven grandkids, Ryan Breedyk (Morgan); Kristen Kamper (Larry); Aaron Breedyk (Rachel); Cherise Rainwater (Brady); Candise Crow (BJ); Justin Breedyk (Shiloh); Cory Figueroa (Breanne); Katelyn Krakauskas (Mitch); Arielle Breedyk; Courtney Gohres and Chase Gohres. She was known as Beppe to her precious fourteen great grandkids and will be missed by many more special family members.
Neadie was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Van Laar and Adeline Thackeray, her brother Larry Van Laar, sister Shirley Williams and grandson Cole Gohres.
A celebration of Neadie’s life will be held Monday, October 21st beginning with a graveside service at 11:00 AM at South Park Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 12:00, First Presbyterian Church in Dexter, 201 Fifth Street. All are welcome for lunch with the family. Officiating her service will be Pastor Stephen Deutsch. Those honored to serve as Pallbearers are Neadie’s grandsons.
As a family we would like to say a special thank you to all of her caregivers who loved her and took great care of her.
In lieu of flowers we ask donations to be made in her honor to Operation Hope, 1120 W. Loop 289 Suite 227 Lubbock, TX 79416.
