Murray Heward Sharp passed away on April 19, 2010 at the age of 83 in Roswell, NM. Murray was born May 11, 1926 in Ogden, Utah to Jesse Sharp and Russletta Heward Sharp.
In 1941 Murray left school at the age of 15 to help support his family due to his fathers poor health. He joined the US navy on his 17 birthday during World War II. He left the navy in 1947 to work at Hill Air force base in Ogden, Utah. He later rejoined the navy prior the Korean War. In 1975 he retired as a Chief of Naval Education and training and a disaster preparedness officer.
During his 33 years of service Murray Traveled the far reaches of the World. He obtained a post doctoral in Science, Biology, Philosophy, Naval Aviation History through naval schools and personal study. He also worked in the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola Florida as the head of the Restoration department. Murray was a member of the pistol and rifle team for many years.
In 1988 when he retired from civil service he and Alice moved to Roswell to be close to his children and grandchildren. Murray enjoyed gardening and was a past president of the Home Garden Club. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, carving, genealogy, attending church, singing in the choir. He was a music enthusiast and enjoyed opera. Murray loved his children, grandchildren and adored his wife, Alice.
He is survived by his son: Gregory Karen Sharp and his daughter Linda Magill. Grandchildren: Kym Sacha Kotlarov, Tonya Alex Torres, Heather Shane Goodman, Craig Leah Sharp, Garret Sharp, Eric Magill, Laura Ryan Price, Patrick Magill Jr., Annie Magill, Will Shea Magill, Zack Melleny Magill, Kate Alice Magill, Andrew Magill, Phillip Magill and 16 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 2201 W. Country Club, Roswell, New Mexico with Bishop Malcom officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
