Milton Herrington Sr.

June 15, 1953 — April 24, 2018

Milton George Herrington Sr., 65, of Yukon, Oklahoma, formerly of Roswell New Mexico passed away on April 24, 2018.

Milt loved traveling the road less traveled in and around Oklahoma City and state. He took great pleasure in sitting at a lake, talking and watching nature. Throughout his fight with cancer, he never
complained about the pain or the discomfort he experienced. Whatever was happening, he always look to the blessings we have. He loved to whistle and took the phrase "whistle while you work' literally. He could be heard whistling as he walked the halls of the schools he worked in and at home. He lived his life with a positive attitude and frequently told family/visitors that negative thoughts were to be left at the Oklahoma state line. Milt was a mentor to many friends and family. Family and friends knew they
could turn to him for a kind and unbiased listening ear.

Milt is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vicki , son Milton Jr. (Nicholette), son Brandon (Jeanne), father
George (Mary), brother Mike, 3 beautiful granddaughters (Faith, Hope, Paiden) and 3 handsome grandsons (Joshua, Brandon II, Luke), beloved nephews, nieces and cousins and special cousin Bonnie Sue Whitehead (Boyd). He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Elizabeth (Lewis) Herrington.

A special thanks to INTEGRIS Hospice Care team and Dr. Laura Theobald, Oklahoma City for their devoted care to Milt and his family.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is a way of life.
"Ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ
Having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God
And all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting
Upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold,
Thus saith the Father: Ye shall eternal life"

I knelt there at the headstone
of one I love and cried.
Name, with dates of birth and death
were perfectly inscribed.

I pondered these two dates
and how little they both mean
when compared to the tiny dash
that lies there in between.

The dash serves as an emblem
of our time here on the earth,
and although small, it stands for all
our years of life, and worth.

And our worth will be determined
by how we live each day.
We can fill our dash with goodness,
or waste our life away.
o ourselves, as well as others,
let's be honest, kind and true,
and every day, live the way
we know God wants us to.

May we look for opportunities
to do a worthy deed,
and reach out with compassion
to those who are in need.

For If our hearts are full of love
throughout our journey here,
we'll be loved by all who knew us
and our memory they'll hold dear.

And when we die, these memories
will bring grateful, loving tears,
to all whose lives were touched
by the dash between our years.
