Michael Barrett

October 27, 1961 — October 3, 2025

Michael Lynn Barrett, of Roswell, NM, passed away October 3, 2025 at the age of 63 in Las Cruces, NM surrounded by his family.

He was born October 27, 1961 to John and Joy Barrett in Roswell, NM. He grew up on Sunny Side Farm located east of town in Roswell, NM, where he learned a strong work ethic and how to appreciate the simple things in life with “Gran.” His ability to never meet a stranger came from his father being transferred to various Air Force bases around the country.

He graduated from Clovis High School in 1980, and moved back to Roswell in 1982 to attend ENMU-R Oilfield Training Center, where he graduated in 1984 with a degree in Petroleum Production Technology. During his 40 years of working in the oilfield he held various positions from Pumper to Production Superintendent, where he was employed by National Production Systems, Yates Petroleum, Lime Rock Resources, and Select Well Service/BMB Rentals. At the time of his passing, he was the Production Supervisor with Opal Natural Resources.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Chisum Cowboys Gun Club, Single Action Shooting Society and Valley Vintage Motor Car Club. The thing he enjoyed most was playing golf with his father, special nephew Liam, and the “Gophers” every chance he could. He was a die-hard fan of Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, NASCAR, NHRA, Fords, and the American flag.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years and life partner for 43 years, Paula Barrett, son Chance Barrett, of Las Cruces, NM, daughter Katelyn Barrett, of Roswell, NM, father John Barrett (Branka) of Roswell, NM, brother Johnny Barrett of Freeland, WA, sister Rhonda Barrett of Roswell, NM, aunt Kaye Costello (Mike), uncle Gary Jones (Linda), aunt Jenny Barrett, aunt Jean Mary Erdeli (John), uncle Chris Barrett, cousins Carolyn Baker (Dusty), Carla Costello, Kristy Hamilton (Jimmy), Cari Jowers (Phillip), Terry Freeman, and mother-in-law Julie Dillon.

He is preceded in death by his mother Joy Lynn Barrett, maternal grandparents Jim and Gladys Jones, paternal grandparents Jack and Jean Barrett, aunt Shirley Freeman, aunt Susie Barrett, and father-in-law Dirt Dillon.

He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend to all who knew him. He will always be remembered for putting everyone before himself. He never hesitated to go out of his way to help people out. He was a role model for so many that looked up to him. He would always know the right thing to do and say. He was loved and respected by all that knew him. He was our hero.
