Mary Gurrola

September 27, 1924 — February 19, 2024

MARÍA GURROLA
As a great testimony of the Lord Jesus, María Gurrola formed a beautiful home with her husband Sixto Gurrola and her five children. Today she has been called by the Lord Jesus and will live with her beloved husband for eternity.

María was born here in Roswell, NM on September 27, 1924. Her parents were Mariano Dominguez and Cándida Saipán. Maria was one of the twelve children in the family and the surviving one of her siblings.

Maria received all of her education here in Roswell, NM. She attended East Side Elementary School on Fifth Street. In 1947 she received the Lord's call to educate herself in the ministry and she went to the Latin American Bible Institute in El Paso, TX, where she studied Theology and the Bible. This was a very special time in her life.

In 1955 she met her husband Sixto Gurrola. They made a beautiful home. Sixto was a great husband and dedicated to the family. María always said that between her and Sixto it was love at first sight. This year they got married to form their home. Here in Roswell all of her children were born, Ishmael, Dina, Benjamin, Duma and John. From these children, María and Sixto enjoyed 10 grandchildren who always brought them happiness and contentment. Dina died on March 25, 1967, later her remains were brought from California to be buried here in Roswell.

In November 1964 they moved to California, where they lived for 28 years. In 1990 they moved to the State of Oregon to be near Ismael. Later in 1993 they decided to return to Roswell, to be close to her sister Praxedes, her nephews and other friends and brothers from the church. She was always very helpful and was a great cook. She prepared meals that she distributed at the church in the community. María worked as a volunteer in a center that prepared clothes and distributed them to poor and needy people.

Finding themselves far from her children and wanting to live near them, they moved to Paducah, Kentucky to live near them and their families. When brother Sixto passed away, Maria found in her beloved children wonderful help, both family and spiritual, in the most difficult hours of her life. Her children helped her take care of her beloved husband when he was very sick.

Today María Gurrola is in heaven with her Lord and Savior. Jesus who said, "I am the Resurrection and the life, and he who is dead will live."
