Marvin Bramblett

Marvin Lee Bramblett died peacefully on October 5th, 2025, in his home in Dexter, NM, surrounded by his loving family. Marvin was born November 5th, 1928, in Hagerman, NM, to Leo Isaac Bramblett and Mattie Marsella (Fletcher) Bramblett. His mother died in 1932, leaving Marvin and his sister Modene. Marvin lived off and on with his Dad and different family members, but mostly with his Grandma Hattie Fletcher in the Pecos Valley of New Mexico. At age 15, Marvin moved to Carlsbad, NM, to live with his Dad. While attending school, he developed a love for basketball. His Dad did not share his enthusiasm for the sport, but during that time, his Uncle Omer Bramblett invited him to move to Texas. Marvin accepted the offer, moving to Coryell County, TX, where he could continue school and play basketball in exchange for helping with chores. That was the beginning of him being on his own. He lived with Uncle Omer about a year and attended the 9th grade in Levita, a small community west of Gatesville, TX. During the summer of 1946, he met a beautiful red headed young lady that was to become his wife, Beth Choat. They both graduated from Jonesboro High School in May of 1948.

Marvin attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX, while Beth worked at Coryell Memorial Hospital in Gatesville. Marvin and Beth married January 24, 1949 in Bryan. Upon graduation from the military academy, Marvin and Beth moved to Dexter, New Mexico with their two young children, Steve and Patty. Shortly after their move their youngest, Ellen, was born. Marvin began working for his Uncle Penix's and Uncle Rusty's farming operation, and soon after began farming on his own. Over the next 70 years, Marvin farmed daily and built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. He leased and purchased numerous farms in the Dexter and Hagerman areas and continued farming well into his 90s. Marvin was dedicated to his community. He served on the Dexter School Board for 19 years and was a regular at every sporting event he could attend. He was also an active member of the United Methodist Church of Dexter and served on numerous agricultural cooperative boards.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Beth Bramblett; his brother, Bill Bramblett; and two sisters, Irene Marlett and Janice Bramblett. He and Beth raised three children: Steve and Donna Bramblett from Bennington, OK; Patty and Jody Barnett from Clovis, NM; Ellen Bramblett and Frank Reed from Burnet, TX. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Tammy Bramblett Wahlenmaier (Eddie) from Weatherford, TX, Will Bramblett (Julia) from Assaria, KS, Matt Bramblett from Weatherford, TX, Boggy Bramblett (Kara) from Montgomery, TX, J.O. Barnett (Mimi) from Montrose, CO, Blythe Barnett Simonson (David) from Castroville, TX, Brandon Kuykendall (Skylar Crossley) from Roswell, NM, Lance Kuykendall from Alto, NM. Marvin was the proud grandfather of 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. He was blessed to be survived by a wonderful and caring friend, Pilo Ramirez. In the past few years his caregivers, Martha Luna and Maria Steider, became very close with him and Beth. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and kids that he impacted through coaching, officiating, and community involvement.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Leo and Mattie Bramblett; his sister Modene Bramblett Shepard; and brothers, David Bramblett and Sammy Bramblett.

There will be a Memorial Service for Marvin, held at the Presbyterian Church in Dexter, NM, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 3:00 pm.
