Maria Luevano

February 20, 1929 — January 26, 2019

María Luisa Luevano was born February 20, 1929 in Fabens, Texas to Alejandro and Ysidra Gonzalez. María passed away peacefully on January 26, 2019, at the age of 89 years. Her many years of life were always surrounded by family and lots of love.

Ama, Grandma, Tia Licha married her one love, Margarito Luevano, on January 6, 1947 and was by his side until his passing on April 22, 2018. María was a fearless mother and spent her early part of life raising a family of 10. María had a devotion to the Catholic faith and the Blessed Mother Virgin Mary, La Virgen de Guadalupe. You could easily find over 30 artifacts of the Virgin Mary throughout her home. Sunday was a cherished day for God and family. After Sunday Mass, she would offer radical hospitality to family and friends who would spend the day with them in Dexter. She made sure you ate, and if you didn't, she would constantly ask you, "Comiste?" until she witnessed you actually eating. After the passing of her husband, family stepped in to meet her needs. She particularly enjoyed her shopping excursions with her granddaughter Vero and made sure to dress her best for this occasion.

She is survived by her sons, Lupe (wife Margie) Luevano, Librado "Lalo" (wife Ruth) Luevano, Raul (wife Velma) Luevano, Margarito, Jr. (wife Frances) Luevano, and Mike Luevano; daughter-n-laws, Jeannie Luevano, Sylvia Orosco Luevano and Angie Luevano; brother, Alejandro Gonzalez and sister Anita Gonzalez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Maria Luisa Luevano will also be remembered by her 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Margarito Luevano, her sons Francisco "Kico," Luis, Cruz, and Henry Luevano; her daughter, Gloria Luevano-Serrano and daughter-in-law Juanita I. Luevano; grandson "Kico" Jr. Luevano; siblings Teresa De La O, Paula Mireles, Moya Chavarria and Genaro Gonzalez.
