Margarito Luevano

Margarito Luevano was born on February 22, 1928, in Fort Quitman, TX to Librado and Luz Luevano. He passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at his home in Dexter, NM surrounded by family. 90 years of life cannot be summed up in a short narrative, but he truly lived a memorable and purpose filled life surrounded by love. He now lives embraced by the Love of God.
Apa, Dad, Grandpa, Pa Luevano married his one love Maria Luisa Gonzales on Jan. 6, 1947, and recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. Margarito worked as a farm laborer and feed lot worker in NM and TX. He was dedicated to his family, especially his wife. A quality admired by his loved ones is the dedication to hard manual labor, which supported his wife and the growing family of 10. Although late in retiring, he never really retired as he dedicated time to gardening and yard work. Sunday was a cherished day for God and family. After Mass, Margarito spent the day cooking asado, arroz mdfrijoles with his wife anticipating the weekly visit of his children and grandchildren. Over the years these visits included the competitive sports of volleyball, baseball, basketball, billiards pool, horseshoes, cards and sometimes having a cookout. Margarito always looked forward to playing pool on Sunday with his children, especially with his son Mike, and if you won a game it's because he let you win.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Luisa Luevano; sons, Lupe (wife Margie) Luevano, Librado "Lalo" (wife Ruth) Luevano, Raul (wife Velma) Luevano, Margarito, Jr. (wife Frances) Luevano, and Mike Luevano; daughter-n-laws, Jeannie Luevano, Sylvia Orosco Luevano and Angie Luevano; brothers, Jose and Dolores Luevano; sisters Juanita Luevano and Severiana Guerrero, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margarito Luevano will also be remembered by his 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren as he cherished them all the same.
He is preceded in death by his sons Francisco "Kico," Luis, Cruz, and Henry Luevano; his daughter, Gloria Luevano-Serrano and daughter-in-law Juanita I. Luevano; grandson "Kico" Jr. Luevano; siblings Antonio Sanchez, Blase Luevano and Lorenza Hernandez and his parents Librado and Luz Luevano.

Viewing will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ballard Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, April 27, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Rosary at 10 a.m., Mass of Resurrection at 11a.m., celebrated by Friar Mario Luevano Serrano, OFM Conv., grandson, followed by burial at South Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Tony Serrano, Ben Serrano, Rey Serrano, Andrew Luevano, Marty Luevano and Jonathan Cooper.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Jonathan Wolkwitz PA-C, Kymera Independent Physicians, and Kindred Hospice for their care. Appreciation is also extended to Connie Torrez and Theresa Mendiola for catering and serving at the reception which will be held at St. Peter's Hall after the burial. Friends and neighbors continue to fill us with gratitude by their prayers and thoughtful actions.

"One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him and other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back and at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him, and he questioned the LORD about it. 'LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when 1 needed you most you leave me.'
The LORD replied 'My precious, precious child. I love you and I would never leave you. During the time of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints.... it was then that I carried you.'
