Margaret Vivian Chavez, of Roswell, New Mexico, passed away surrounded by family on May 1, 2025. Margaret was born in Artesia, New Mexico on September 4th, 1949, to Joe and Maxine Reyes. She spent most of her life in the Pecos Valley, growing up in Artesia, and, eventually moving to Roswell, where she worked for the RISD for many years. She was a devoted wife and partner of Frank Chavez, and a fearless, dedicated, loving mother to Jeff, Mark, and Lisa Chavez.
Margaret was a woman of faith, a kind and loving mentor to countless young people, and fiercely devoted to her family. She loved photography, a lifelong passion, and used that passion to preserve a lifetime of memories during countless vacations in her favorite place, the mountains of southern Colorado. Margaret loved crafts, sporting events, spending time with her friends and family, traveling anywhere someone wanted to take her, and the beauty of nature. Most of all, Margaret loved bringing positivity, light, and a smile into the lives of everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by both her family, and her community.
Margaret is survived by her husband Frank, her daughter Lisa, her sons Jeff and Mark and Mark’s wife Crystal, her grandchildren Jordan Chavez, Zoe Chavez, Tommy Perea, and Kristina Perea, as well as her adopted families of Robert Perea, Vicky Perea, Julie Bryant, Lorenzo and Heather Snyder and their three daughters, Mia, Ireland, and Lorelai (Lolo).
