Malcolm Moore

December 27, 2019 — December 12, 2019

Terry Moore was born to Edna and Leo Moore in Merkel, TX on December 27,1948. He was the last of seven children that Mrs. Moore called her "Lucky Seven".

Terry graduated from Portales High School and Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. Graduating with both a B.A. and M.A. in Business.

While attending college he married Glennis Hatch of Portales, NM. They had one daughter, Tara. Later they divorced with Tara living with her mother when she was young and with her father in Roswell during her high school years.

Terry began his teaching career as an instructor and assistant high school baseball coach at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM. He taught business classes and his rank was Captain. Terry taught at New Mexico Military Institute for "Thirty" years and retired in 2004 with the rank of Colonel and full professor in the Business Department. During the summer breaks from school, he painted many houses and restaurants in New Mexico. After serving as the assistant high school baseball coach, he was the head baseball coach for ten years. Terry was in the New Mexico National Guard for several years.

Terry loved Tara and her family more than anything else in the world. He also loved the game of baseball and cherished the memory of going to the 2001 Baseball World Series where the Arizona Diamondbacks played the New Yankees. He was always at the Sally Port Inn for "choir" practice with his NMMI colleagues on Thursday afternoons. Terry tried to attend every athletic contest that his grandchildren played. On a basketball game night, he could be found on the top bleacher in the Northwest corner of the Roswell high gym. He was so proud of grandson Deyton receiving a basketball scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University and granddaughter Jaedyn receiving a basketball scholarship to the University of New Mexico where she is playing for the Lady Lobos. Terry could be seen driving around town driving his favorite blue 1956 Chevy pickup wearing a Boston Red Sox baseball cap.

Those left to cherish Terry's memory are his daughter, Tara DeLa Cerda and her husband Bill; grandchildren Deyton and his wife Santana, Jaedyn, and Addycen DeLa Cerda; great grandchildren Emri and Emmy DeLa Cerda; brothers Buddy Moore and wife Sheri of Levelland, TX, Derry Moore and wife Kirby of Roswell NM; sisters Mary Shea of Olympia, WA. Sandra Monks of Elida, NM and several nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents F.T. and Etta Moore; parents Leo and Edna Moore; siblings Bobby Leo Moore and Patsy Lynn Hanks

There will be no funeral service, but at a later date when Terry’s remains are placed in the Columbarium at New Mexico Military Institute, there will be invitations to his family and close friends
