Karen Helene Curtis
Funeral services for Karen Curtis will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Assumption Catholic Church, with the Holy Rosary at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 9:00 a.m.
Karen was born to Frank Curtis and Alice Sequeira in Palo Alto, California, on April 8, 1948. She passed away in Roswell on April 12, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.
Karen grew up in California in the San Francisco Bay Area. After completing Palo Alto High School, Karen attended DeAnza College and got a degree in Criminal Justice, hoping to become a police officer. At that time, the only job she could get in law enforcement, as a woman, was as a precinct secretary, work she did not want to do. She then switched careers to Information Technology and went to work at Hewlett-Packard, where she worked for 24 years.
In 1969 Karen met the love of her life, Lloyd Gramenz. They enjoyed 34 wonderful years together before Lloyd passed away in 2003. She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling, camping, cheering on the San Francisco 49ers, and playing tennis and golf. They also participated in Endurance Horseback Riding Events. In 1996, after they had both retired, Karen and Lloyd moved to Roswell, New Mexico.
Karen was received into the Catholic Church in 2003. After Lloyd's passing, Karen kept herself busy by being very active in her church and working with and supporting many charities. At Assumption Catholic Church, she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Food for Funerals group, and was the leader of the parish's Eucharistic Ministers. She served on the board of the Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces.
Karen crocheted blankets for the homeless and beanies for the newborns at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, helped at the Poor Clare Monastery and was very active in the Roswell Community Kitchen. She was an avid golfer and won several hole-in-one trophies. She loved to cook and play mahjong with her friends. She was an amazing woman and will be very missed.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Roswell Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
