Joyce Shutt

July 10, 1936 — November 8, 2016

Joyce Tecklenberg Shutt passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2016 at Casa Maria following major surgery.

Joyce was born in Lima, Ohio on July 10, 1936 to her parents Roger and Helen Tecklenberg. With the exception of 4 years (in which her physician father served in the Medical Corp during WW2) she spent her childhood in Lima. While attending Lima Shawnee High school she met her future husband Bob who was also a student.

Being fascinated with foreign languages Joyce majored in French at Denison University in Granville Ohio. She spent a summer in France living with a French host family and received the Fullbright Scholarship for a graduate year from a French University in Brittany. The following year in 1960 she and Bob were married and moved to Boulder Colorado as Bob pursued a Master's degree in physics. Joyce taught French at the local Junior High School until the birth of their first son Robert.

Following Bob's awarding of his Physics Degree Joyce and the family moved to Sunspot NM where he had accepted a position as a Group Supervisor at Sacramento Peak Observatory. There the family lived for the next 6 years and welcomed the birth of their second son Thomas. Once again the family moved after Bob accepted another position with IBM in El Paso TX where the family resided until his retirement in 1992; which concluded in a move to Roswell NM. Joyce thoroughly enjoyed life in a smaller community, spending many hours playing duplicate bridge at the Roswell Adult Center and joining Chapter B, P.E.O. and the 1941 Book Club.

Survivors include her husband Bob of Roswell NM; son Robert and his wife Kathy and their 8 children of Knoxville TN; son Thomas and his wife Krysta and their 3 children of Palo Alto CA. Both Joyce and Bob were very proud of their fine families. In keeping with Joyce's wishes she will be buried in Roswell NM at South Park Cemetery with no services being held.

Bob will be forever grateful for the privilege of spending 56 years of marriage with this wonderful woman. He and his families are most thankful for the many expressions of concern and well wishes received, and wish to thank Lovelace and Eastern New Mexico Medical Center hospitals and to Casa Maria for compassionate care and treatment.
