Janet Randeau

Janet Lea Burnworth Randeau was born February 15,1949 at St. Mary's Hospital in Roswell, NM. She passed from this world on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, NM at the age of 69.

She is survived by her mother Annabel Burnworth of Roswell, NM; her daughter Sherryl Smith (husband Jason) of Las Cruces, NM; her son Lee Randeau (Tonya) of Roswell, NM; her three grandchildren Meranda Randeau of Roswell, NM; Lynn Smith and Jacob Smith of Las Cruces, NM. She is preceded in death by her father Ralph Burnworth; her first husband Billy Jack Butler; her grandparents Lee Roy Walker, Ivan and Anna Walker Gill, Frank and Anise Burnworth; her uncle Lee Roy Walker Jr.

Janet graduated from Roswell High School Class of '66 as well as completing Business College shortly after. She worked many years at her Father's business Burnworth Coll Heating and Air Conditioning Company and many years at Ray Bell Oil Company.

Janet's passion of raising and showing Thoroughbreds and Quarter horses in both English and Western long began when she was in her youth. She raised, trained and competed with some exceptional horses earning her many accolades, medals, trophies and ribbons. She rode up until the few short days before her passing making it a truly lifelong passion. This passion carried over to her volunteer work with being involved as the 4-H Horse Director for Chaves County for many years. She was a lifelong volunteer with the Chaves County and New Mexico State 4-H groups. She loved working with youth by supporting and helping many 4-H'ers and young riders succeed and pursue their passions.

Janet shared her passion and love of horses with her daughter Sherryl showing many years side by side, all of her grandchildren, and many lifelong friends. Janet also shared her love of NASCAR with her son Lee by catching several races at the Texas Motor Speedway. She was a proud mother and grandmother who could be found cheering on the side of a soccer field, on the rail of a horse show, or in the bleachers of any activity her kids or grandkids were involved in. Janet could also be found with a car full of kids transporting them to many 4-H and FFA activities.

She was a member of several horse associations: Carlsbad Horseman Assoc., New Mexico Horse Shows Assoc., Chaves County Rodeo Assoc., a lifetime member of Pecos Valley Horseman, to name a few. She held many offices in these associations along with the 4-H Executive Board and the Chaves County Fair Board for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Southeast New Mexico Seniors and the Southeast New Mexico Historical Museum.

The celebration of Janet's life will be officiated by John Fuss. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Larry Hobson, Dirk Jones, Wayne McCarter, Randle Read, and Abe Peralta. Honorary pallbearer will be Jacob Smith.

Services will be at Ballard Funeral Home, located at 910 S. Main St., Roswell, NM 88203, at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Burial will immediately follow at South Park Cemetery. Viewing hours are from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Ballard Funeral Home.
