James Clark Summersgill
Lifelong resident James Clark Summersgill peacefully passed away last Thursday morning at Goodlife Assisted Living facility in Artesia, NM. James (98) was born October 18, 1924. The fifth child of John and Fearn (McGranahan), one sister Elizabeth (Shores) and four brothers John, Steven, Ray and Paul, all preceded him in death. And his adult son, Stephen.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years Dixie (Thornton); son Dana (Julie); two granddaughters Lindsay Voxland (James) and Blythe Harris (Khris); four great grandchildren Alyssa, Owen, Joshua, and Luke all who loved and adored him. They will miss him frequently. As will all the extended family and many dear friends. He was a caring and fun-loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
James was a graduate of Roswell High School and took some college classes at UNM. He was a sheet metal fabricator/businessman in the construction industry (HVAC) and was in a successful partnership with Thomsen's Heating & Air for many years. He had a very long retirement. James was a member and active in many community civic/service organizations. A lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he leaves many fingerprints. Golfing, travel and stained-glass crafting consumed much of his interest and time after retirement.
James was a veteran of WW2, serving overseas in the Army Airforce. A military service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the McBride Veterans National Cemetery at 10:00 am to honor his life and service.
