James Jones

September 10, 1944 — May 22, 2025

Jimmey “Bubba” Jones went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, on May 22,2025. He had a positive impact on every person who came into his life.

Jimmey was born on September 10, 1944, in Goldthwaite, Texas. He is proceeded in death by his precious parents Joyce and James Jones of Lubbock, Texas, and his precious baby sister Pam Scarbro of Lubbock, Texas. Pam’s Husband Ward was one of Jimmey’s best friends and so much more than a brother-in-law.

Not long after he was born, the family moved to Carlsbad, NM., where he graduated from Carlsbad High School, in 1962. He was a member of the band and a wonderful trumpet player. This is when he met his life long best friend, Larry Courter.

When his high school years were over, he took great pride in joining the Air Force. He would tell everyone how hard it was, but the truth is he spent 4 years playing beach volleyball when stationed in Florida.

After his time in the Air Force, his wonderful personality led to a career in sales. He finished his career working for Logan Military Supply. He was the national sales manager and sold military clothing to all the Military schools in the country.

Jimmey loved his Lord. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years and served as a Deacon in the church. He loved telling people how the Lord has always guided and protected him, and was happy to share Jesus with anyone willing to listen.

Jimmey was an avid golfer and over the course of time became a great player. He won the first flight in the city championship many times over his golfing career. He enjoyed his time on the golf course with his dear friends.

Jimmey was a wonderful family man. He married his wonderful fishing and casino partner Joyce Jones on June 11,2005. For 20 years they had a wonderful time together going on camping trips and playing the double diamonds slot machines. Joyce is a gift to the entire family. Joyce’s son Curtis Thrift, was also very close to Jimmey, and they had many wonderful times together.

Jimmey had one son Brant “BJ” Jones who was his best friend. Jimmey was very proud of the fact his son is a physical education teacher, and how many lives his son has impacted over the course of a 30 year teaching career. He loved hearing all his son’s teaching stories.

His two grandkids, Cason and Mackenzie, were his pride and joy. His wonderful smile became even brighter the minute they walked in the door. He was very proud of the young people they have turned out to be. He also loved his Daughter-in-law, Mindi Jones, very much.

Jimmey had 2 very special sisters-in-law, Cathy Gossett of Fort Worth, TX and Cheryl Vickers of Carlsbad, NM.

My 2 dads

The father I have in heaven has truly shown me love

The father he gave me here on earth was surely a gift from above

Both have loved and guided me throughout my many years

Both have held my hand and whipped away my tears

Now that they are together an emptiness fills my heart

Beautiful memories fill my mind until we are never again apart

Thank you Jesus for my dad and our many years we had together

Tell him I love him and I’ll see him soon and next time it will be forever.
