J. Fidel Neria, 80
Born in Roswell, NM on February 4, 1941, Fidel died in Lubbock, TX on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
Active in Music liturgy beginning in Elementary school at St. John’s Catholic Church and later at Assumption BVM Church. He served as liturgical director at both parishes as well as Parish council member at both. At St. John’s Fidel was active in the Cursillo movement and served as team leader for the Search movement for young Catholics of all parishes including NMMI students. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He was very involved in community activities as a member of the Roswell and New Mexico Jaycees where he worked tirelessly on many community projects such as the ENM State Fair Parade, Pecos Valley Rotary, and was forming member of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Roswell program. For many years, he was active in Miss America Preliminaries serving in various capacity in the Miss Roswell Pageant and served as a judge for several New Mexico Community pageants.
Fidel is survived by his spouse Della Neria, his daughter Kristen Neria (Connie Karras), his son Eric Neria, his son Jeff Neria, grandchildren Kristina Betke, Kaitlin Betke, Jessie Vargas, Meghan Betke and great grandchildren Rose Vargas, Gwendolyn Vargas, Lucas Afanador.
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church: Viewing at 9:00 am, Rosary at 9:30 am and Mass at 10:00 am, on Monday, November 15, 2021. For the safety of attendee’s masks will be required.
