With heavy hearts, our family share the news, of our Dad, Joe & Lala Chavez, only son, Godfrey Joe Chavez, who passed away peacefully with family at his side on November 19, 2025, at the age of 77, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center at Roswell NM. He was surrounded by hospice medical staff and also his sisters Gloria, Albina, Vivian, Mabel, Pastor Marco who gave him his last rights and blessings.
Brother Godfrey was born on March 13, 1948, in Carrizozo, NM to the late WWII USN Veteran, Joe A. Chavez and Eulalia 'Lala' Chavez.
Godfrey had been married to Rosa Trujillo Chavez.
Paternal grandparents Atoncio and Maria Efie Chavez, Carrizozo NM.
Maternal grandparents Ralph Lopez and Dolores Lueras Lopez, of Reventon NM.
Godfrey went to school to Saint Rita Catholic Church and graduated from Carrizozo High School. He enjoyed the beauty of nature, often of fishing and hunting excursion with his dad Joe, nephew Darrell Chavez and cousins. He was a man of all trades and loved doing crafts. Worked as a mechanic in Texas.
Godfrey is predeceased in death by his parents, WWII USN Veteran, Joe A. Chavez. Mother, Eulalia L. Chavez and his sister, Dolores Villezcos of Carrizozo NM.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Treece of NJ; Mabel Candelaria of Carrizozo NM; Lorena Spraggins of Saint Louis MO; Gloria Sampson of Belen NM; Albina Chavez of Carrizozo NM; Vivian Chavez of Tularosa NM; and niece, Barbara Barela of Alamogordo NM.
May our brother Godfrey rest in peace and may our good Lord and Godrey's family, who are at rest, take his hand and lead him to God's heavenly gates, where there is no pain only laughter.
Thank you from the heart to the staff of Mission Arc Center, and his guardians Donna and Christina who took great loving care of him for many years. Also, thank you to Eastern New Mexico State Center, hospice nurses and staff who gave him care and comfort on his last hours. To Pastor Marco, for giving our brother Godfrey, his last rights & blessing to his sisters.
Thank you to everyone who reached out to our family in prayers and condolences. It is always hard to lose a loved one especially during the holidays. May our good Lord give us strength to get through this sad time.
