Gloria Varela

Loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

On Friday March 9, 2018 Jesus called our loving Gloria Ann Varela, 84 of Roswell New Mexico home. She left this world surrounded by her loving family.
Gloria was born to Seraipo Nunez and Ermina Armenta on February 7, 1934 in Lincoln New Mexico.

She married Jacob Varela in California on October 4th 1953.Together they raised 4 children. She was Widowed in 1989 and then moved to Roswell permanently in 1991.

She was an ambitious career woman and personnel manager for numerous years. She was also a devoted homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and a humanitarian to all persons who knew her.
Gloria was loved and respected by an extensive line of friends and the community as a whole.

Gloria was a devoted Catholic and attended adoration on Fridays as well as Mass on Sunday morning for many years until she physically could no longer participate. She was also very adamant of her grandchildren taking part in the Catholic Church and receiving their sacraments.

Survivors include her three sons, Jacob Varela and his wife Rose of Roswell New Mexico. Carl Varela of South Carolina, Thomas Varela also of Roswell New Mexico and Marlene Reader of Lakewood, California. 9 grandchildren, Myles Halderman of Alhambra, California, Mamie Varela, Mandie Varela, Michael Varela all of Roswell New Mexico, Madison Varela of South Carolina, Ronnie, Nicolas, Michelle and Lisa Reader of California and 1 great grandchild Gracelynn Ann Varela. As well as her faithful four-legged companions Maximo and Miley.

She is also survived by Chuck Allen and Charlene of California and their children. Rebecca Moralez of Roswell, New Mexico and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob Varela, her twins Michael and Rebecca Ann. Her parents Seriapo and Erminia Nunez, brothers Elmo Nunez, Raymond (tommy) Nunez, Arthur Seriapo Nunez and sisters Nora Salcido and Lee Kalinsky.

Pallbearers will be Mamie Varela, Mandie Varela, Michael Varela, Michelle Reader, Eva Saenz and Rhonda Uranga. The honorary pallbearers will be Madison Varela, Ronnie and Nicolas Reader, Irene Lueras and Joann Chavez.

The family would like to give special thanks to the ICU nursing staff at Lovelace Regional Hospital for all the respectful care and compassion they showed in her final days and Dr. Alkouri of Kymera Cardiology for his ongoing care.
