Eufemia Romero

Jun 26, 1941 — May 21, 2026

Eufemia Romero was called to her eternal resting place on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in Roswell, New Mexico surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on June 26, 1941, in Duran, New Mexico to Jimmy and Nora Madril. Eufemia was one of nine children and was raised with strong values of faith, family, hard work and unconditional love that she carried throughout her life.

On March 23, 1956, Eufemia married the love of her life, Joe Romero. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with six children: Louie, Gilbert, Evelyn, Lisa, Felix and Roque. Eufemia also raised her granddaughters who she held close to her heart: Christina Gamboa, Ahlyssa, Yazmyne and Gabriella Romero. Eufemia devoted her life to her family and was the heart of her home. Her love, guidance and strength shaped generations of her family and her memory will forever live on in each of them.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe Romero, her sons Louie and Gilbert Romero; her brothers Tony Madril, James Madril and Ambrose Madril, and her sisters Inez Tafoya, Mary Zamora and Eva Aragon.

Eufemia is survived by her children Evelyn and Danny Longoria of Mesa, AZ, Lisa and Manuel Medina of Roswell, NM, Felix and Theresa Romero of Roswell, NM and Roque Romero of Roswell, NM. She is also survived by her brothers Lou and Maomi Madril of Roswell, NM and Arnold and Clara Madril of Roswell, NM, sister-in-laws Jennifer Madril of Chinook, MT and Josephine Madril of Maricopa, AZ, along with 20 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren with one on the way. Eufemia had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Eufemia was the kind of person who never let anyone leave her home hungry. If you walked through her door, you were family. Her kitchen was always full, her table always had room for one more and her heart never turned anyone away. She fed any and everybody her green and red chili, beans, papas and homemade tortillas not because she had to but because that was who she was. She spent her life worrying about everyone else before herself. She carried the burdens of the people she loved quietly, always making sure everyone was okay, cared for and never alone. Her door was always open, day or night, and so was her heart. Eufemia gave without hesitation, loved without limits and showed us what true selflessness looked like. The warmth she brought into our lives can never be replaced. And the love she gave will stay with all of us forever. Eufemia's love was unconditional, her strength was endless and her presence was a blessing to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Roque Romero, Arnold Madril, Bebert Romero, Johnny Medina, Dominic Romero, Sammy Gamboa and Roque Ray Romero. Honorary pallbearers will be Felix, Lou, Manuel, Danny, Robert, Watson, Heto, Alex and all her granddaughters.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her brothers Lou and Arnold for spending over 30 years of morning coffee together. Special thank you to Christina and Sammy, Lisa, Gabby and Roque for taking care of Grandma during her final months of life. Thank you to Laura and the nurses from Hospice as well as the nurses from Enhabit for their compassion and care.
