Ernesto was called to be with the Lord on March 4, 2026 at the age of 90. Ernesto was born July 13, 1935, in Hagerman, New Mexico to Adolfo and Maria Duarte Gomez. Both parents preceded him in death, as have siblings Manuel Gomez, Adolfo Gomez Jr., Alpedia Garcia, Arcelia Granado and Joe Gomez.
On January 20, 1958, Ernesto married Viviana Calderon Gomez in Artesia, New Mexico, who preceded him in death in 1992. They were blessed with 7 children, son Ernest Calderon Gomez Jr. (Rosemary) of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Esther Wilkson (Roger) of Cibolo, Texas; Gloria Landry of Richardson, Texas; Virgina Hernandez (John) of Marion, Texas; Janie Pinon (George) of El Paso, Texas; Elma Rodriguez (Richard) of Roswell, New Mexico and Rosemary Aguilar (Jose) of Plano, Texas.
A 47-year resident of Roswell, New Mexico, formerly of Hagerman, Mr. Gomez spent the majority of his life as a farmer. He began his life of honest and hard work in Atoka, New Mexico, later moving to Hagerman, New Mexico and finally settling in Roswell, New Mexico. Mr. Gomez completed schooling through the 8th grade, when he was called upon to begin working full-time to help support his parent’s household. He is remembered as a loving husband and father, grandfather, great grandfather and a deep man of faith. Having not the opportunity to pursue an education further, Mr. Gomez is remembered by his children as being a person of strong common sense, work ethic and a magnetic personality that attracted family, countless friends, and strangers alike. He instilled in his children a commitment to do one’s best, be humble and always greet your neighbor. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, joining his wife Viviana singing in the church choir, he cherished music, dancing, was a masterful joke teller and always made time to watch old western movies. A pillar in so many ways, Ernesto leaves behind a legacy of family, love, and faith.
In addition to his children, surviving him is his brother Samuel Gomez (Dominga) of Roswell, New Mexico; his long-time companion, Delfina De La Hoya also of Roswell; 16 grandchildren, Trey, Serena and Sofia Gomez; Joshua (Sonia), Antonio and Patrick Wilkson; Cara and Audrey Landry and Miranda Castaneda (Jonathan); John E.
