Eleanor Young was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, great-great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on December 20, 2024. Eleanor attended the Assumption Catholic Church.
God has called our mom, a beautiful soul on earth, to an eternity in heaven. She left behind a beautiful family that will continue to celebrate her life. Eleanor lived to see six generations, was a matriarch to many and loved by all. She will be missed by all who knew her and love her.
Mom’s life began on April 11, 1928, and was born as the only child to Pablo & Francisca Castillo, both of whom have passed away. Pablo & Francisca later adopted Daniel Castillo, her brother, who also passed away. Mom has now joined the family in heaven.
Mom went on to marry Jose Campos and together had four children. Jinnie Ortega (Charlie), Tito M. Campos (Jane), Joey Campos, who passed away as an infant, and Larry Paul Campos, who at the age of 19, sacrificed his life to defend and protect his unit and country while stationed in Vietnam.
Mom, a survivor of domestic violence, went on to be a strong mother and a great example of forgiveness, while she worked to support her family. Mom raised her three children with the help of our grandparents Pablo & Francisca Castillo. Mom never showed a sign of weakness or felt sorry for herself. Her faith kept her strong.
Like many, mom’s life had its share of struggles and hardships, but the love was always there. Single mothers and survivors of abuse know that life goes on, and the children depended on mom.
Twelve years later Mom met and married Patrick L. Young while he was stationed at Walker Air Force Base. They traveled and lived in various parts of the U.S and overseas. Before Pat retired, Mom & Pat lived in Alamogordo, NM, while Pat was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base. After Pat retired, they settled in Roswell, NM to be close to family. They were happily married for 55 years before Pat passed away.
Along with her love of travel, Mom was a gifted artist with a talent for painting, ceramics, cooking and sewing.
Mom’s beautiful creative work has won many awards and has been shared with family and graces the homes of the many who loved her. Our family was so proud of her and will miss her passion and zeal for life.
Later in life, mom’s condition developed glaucoma and macular degeneration, which negatively affected her love of the many things she enjoyed in life.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her son Larry P. Campos, husband Patrick L. Young, mother Francisca Castillo, Father Pablo Castillo, and brother Daniel Castillo (wife Helen, dec.).
Eleanor is survived by her beloved children, Jinnie Ortega (Charlie) both of Roswell, Tito M. Campos (Jane), both of Roswell. Also, her only niece Mandy Castillo.
