Edward John
Keenan
Oct 9, 1942 — Aug 19, 2026
Edward John Keenan, born on October 9, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 83. His departure brings a sense of loss to all who knew him, but even more so, his life leaves behind a profound legacy of love, strength, and connection.
Edward’s journey began in the vibrant city of Chicago, where he was welcomed into the world by his parents, Helen Socha Keenan and John Keenan, both of whom preceded him in death. From his earliest days, Edward’s character was defined by warmth, curiosity, and a deep sense of responsibility to family.
Throughout his life, Edward experienced both joy and sorrow but always faced life’s challenges with resilience. Ed joined the United States Air Force, in 1960, and served until 1964, at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM., which is where he found the love of his life. He was a devoted husband to the late Dorthy A. Britton Keenan, for 48 years, before she passed away in November 2011. Together, they created a family that Edward cherished deeply.
Those who mourn him include his son, Anthony Keenan, and his daughter-in-law, Grace Caguia Keenan, who carry forward his lessons of dedication and kindness. Edward’s legacy is further honored by his daughter, Kai (Vickie) Keenan Jin, and his son-in-law, Kim Jin, whose love and respect for him were ever evident. Edward’s family circle also included his dear siblings: brother Larry Keenan, of Pampa, TX; sisters Marie Schumacher, Joyce Doggett and Linda Weiss, all of Farmington, NM. Ed also will be missed by his 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Edward also joins in peace his beloved son, John Keenan, whose memory remains close to the hearts of those who survive. The passing of his wife, parents, and son were moments of great trial for Edward, yet he upheld their memories with grace and steadfast devotion.
Family was at the center of Edward’s world. His relationships were marked by patience, encouragement, and a steady presence. Ed was a Grand Master in Martial arts and enjoyed teaching others Karate. He was an avid hunter, loved fishing, loved to can food especially, y'elly. He loved John Wayne movies and his memorabilia. He was the kind of man whose counsel was sought and whose laughter brought light to gatherings, embodying compassion and integrity in all that he did.
Loved ones and friends are invited to honor Edward’s life at a visitation to be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ballard Funeral Home, 910 S Main St, Roswell, NM 88203. A funeral service will follow on Sunday, August 30, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. These services will offer an opportunity for all who knew Edward to remember, reflect, and celebrate a life well-lived.
Edward John Keenan’s journey through life has come to its natural close, but the love he shared, the guidance he gave, and the example he set will continue to echo through the lives of those he leaves behind. Ed was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. His memory will remain a blessing and a source of strength to his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Roswell Veterans Honor Guard OR Roswell American Legion Post 28.
