Duwain Brack Bullock
A lifetime dedicated to the love of his family was the greatest earthly reward for Duwain Brack Bullock for whom the gates of Heaven opened on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Duwain was born in Portales, New Mexico on February 8, 1938. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Houston and Ruth, and his brothers Art, Bill, and Jim and sister Carla Dopson.
Sixty years ago, he married Patricia Ann Bennett who survives him at the family home in Roswell. He is also survived by his son, Brack and his wife Rebecca of Lubbock, Texas and another son, Brad and his wife Crista of Midland, Texas. Grandchildren include Melissa Curry and her husband Baden of Amarillo, Marin Bullock of Amarillo, Julianne Bullock of Lubbock, Ashlin Bullock of Lubbock, Quinn Bullock of Midland, and Case Bullock of Midland. He is also survived by brother and sister in laws Alan and Phyllis Ivey of Roy, New Mexico and Cotton Patton of Roswell, New Mexico and many nieces and nephews.
He loved his family fiercely and was always so proud of each and every one of them. He truly treasured the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.
Duwain grew up in Portales and graduated from Portales High School and then Eastern New Mexico University. He then left to attend law school in Arizona and had barely settled into his apartment when word came that the family farm in Portales had been devastated by a hailstorm. Although his parents did not ask him to return, he knew in his heart what he must do. He always put his family first, starting when he was a young man finding his way in the world until his very last days. Upon returning to the farm, he completed his master’s degree and teaching credentials at ENMU. His teaching career began in 1963 at the newly built Sierra Middle School in Roswell. There he would teach history and geography for the next thirty years, never moving classrooms.
Upon his retirement in 1993, he focused on his hobbies of woodworking and genealogy. He became a Christian as a young man and was a kind and dedicated family member and friend to many. He attended Bethel Baptist Church in Roswell in his later years. Although he was a man of few words, when he gave you his word, it truly meant something. He was a talented painter and writer and built numerous pieces of furniture for the family.
In lieu of flowers or any memorial gifts may be given in remembrance of Duwain Brack Bullock to the youth program at Bethel Baptist Church.
