Obituary

Dirk Decker was born on December 1st, 1935 in Helena Montana to Clarence and Phyllis Decker. Dirk passed away in Clovis NM on June 26th 2026. Dirk loved his home state of Montana and loved being outdoors. Growing up and living in the Big Sky State provided him a lot of opportunity for his activities of fly fishing, hunting, ice skating and skiing. Dirk was a lifetime learner and had an adventurous spirit.

Dirk married Joanne McKnight in 1954. She preceded him in death in 2012. Dirk attended Montana State University (Go Bobcats!) and graduated with his BS degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation he began his Engineering career that took him across the United States. He also experienced several overseas tours that included Panama, Italy and Saudi Arabia. His final engineering assignment took him to Las Cruces NM where he worked as an Area Engineer at White Sands Missile Range where he retired. He remained living in Las Cruces until moving to Roswell NM in 2013.

His move to Roswell was initiated to his marriage to Marge Ellis Decker. Dirk and Marge lived in Roswell until moving to Clovis NM in 2024.

Dirk is survived by his wife Marge Decker, his daughter Debra Winchell and former son-in-law Larry Winchell, his grandsons Dustin (Kayla) Decker and Dennis Decker, his great grandchildren, Athena and Gabe and a sister-in-law Kathy Decker. He is also survived by Marge’s children Holly (Jim) Vaughan, Bruce (Donna) Ellis and Bryan (Laura) Ellis. He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother Glenn Decker and Dirk’s son Derrick Decker.
