Carmen Barbe - 12/25/1924 thru 11/4/2021

Carmen Barbe was born to Houston Coulter and Mary Maddox in Lawton, Oklahoma. She and her husband, Kenneth Barbe moved to Roswell, NM in 1946

Carmen was a member of First Baptist Church, past president of Berrendo Cow Bells, past president of Roswell Assistance League, member of Roswell Chapter #10 Order of Eastern Star. She was still active Eagle Club, D.A.R., served as Military Heights Elementary School PTA treasurer during children’s school years. Carmen also served as Precinct Judge for elections for many years. She was an avid quilter the last several years, making in excess of 100 quilts. Many were given to family members and donated to the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.

Those left to cherish Carmen are her sons, Ken Barbe (Teresa) of Roswell and Chuck Barbe (Christie) of Dexter, NM; daughter, Janet Gilbert (Terry) of Hobbs, NM; grandchildren, Melissa Ryan (Jeremy) of El Paso, TX, Chad Barbe (Marci) of Roswell, NM, Shawn McDonald (Mary) of Boerne, TX, Christy McDonald (Tim) of Roswell, NM, Robert McDonald of Roswell, NM, Scott Gilbert (Laurie) of Apopka, FL, and Michael Gilbert of Covington, LA; and 13 great-grandchildren

Carmen was married to Kenneth Barbe for 72 years. He preceded her in death in 2016. She lovingly and selflessly cared for him the last 14 years of his life. Their daughter, Carmen June Barbe McDonald, preceded her in death in 1984. Also preceding her in death are her parents, Houston and Mary Emily Coulter and 8 siblings.

Graveside service for Carmen will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday November 10, 2021 at South Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Carmen to Roswell Assistance League, Roswell Assurance Home, or the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.
