Bruno Cortez Matta Jr.
On December 23rd, 2021, God saw fit to bring Bruno Cortez Matta Jr into his heavenly kingdom. This is so that he may finally rest after having faced Stage IV Bladder Cancer. During this time, he faced all obstacles with the same work ethic, determination and courage that had carried him through in life. All the while he would keep his family first in his thoughts and heart. He passed at the age of 70, though his legacy will forever be remembered by those whose lives he graced.
Bruno was born on July 7, 1951, in the city of Roswell, NM to Bruno Sr. and Cuca Matta. He would grow up in Roswell, eventually graduating from Goddard High School. When not working or helping his family, he would spend his free time with his friends. They would often work on their cars to get them ready for the weekend, where they would ride down main and hang out at the hop. It was also around this time he would meet his future wife, Victoria Rivera. After falling in love, they would exchange vows on the 26th of November 1970 and stay married for the rest of their lives.
Hardworking, always willing to learn, and having pride for the work he would do are just some of the characteristics that would describe Bruno's work ethic. Any job worth doing, was worth doing right the first time and if a job required a certain bit of knowledge, he would take the initiative and seek out how to finish a task. It was due to this work ethic that he would eventually earn a role as a supervisor for the Roswell Bus Company, TMC which would eventually be rebranded as Nova Bus.
Though he was a diligent worker, Bruno did have various hobbies. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hunting, and fishing. He would head into the mountains, taking his family with him so that they may get a chance to enjoy the full bounty of nature. When he was not in the forest he was in the trees, at least while playing golf. Another sport he enjoyed playing and could be found joking and offering advice to others on the fairway. For those times he was at home relaxing or working on a hobby project, the sounds of The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and other Motown legends would often be playing on the speakers. Also, every time the Lakers or Raiders would play, the whole family would gather to sit, talk, and reminisce on old times during commercial breaks.
Though he will be missed, his loving memory will be forever kept by his children Ralph Matta, Cynthia Casey, and Eric Matta, his brother Mike Matta, and his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Nicolette Victoria "Nene," Olivia Matta and Savannah Matta. He was met at the gates of Heaven by his loving wife Victoria Matta, his parents Bruno Sr. and Cuca, and his siblings Vicente, Antonio, Elena, Aurora, Pancho, Manuela, and Fred.
