Betty "Tootsie'' Gonzales, a beloved presence in the hearts of many, passed away peacefully at her home in Roswell, New Mexico on July 3, 2025, just shy of her 71st birthday. Born on October 14, 1954, in Roswell, New Mexico to Frank Jimenez and Herlinda Gonzales, Betty was a shining beacon of joy and humor, touching the lives of everyone lucky enough to cross her path.
A dedicated housewife, Betty found fulfillment in her role within her family, nurturing a warm and loving home that became a sanctuary for her husband Steve and their cherished children and grandchildren. From her earliest days, Betty and Steve shared a remarkable bond, beginning their journey together in middle school. Throughout their life together, their love was a testament to enduring partnership, filled with laughter and mutual support-a union that flourished as they built a life rich in shared experiences and affection.
Her home was not just a dwelling; it was an oasis where her vibrant spirit thrived. Tootsie took immense pride in her beautiful yard, meticulously cared for with her own hands. She never allowed anyone else to mow it; it was a labor of love that reflected her dedication to cultivating beauty and joy in her surroundings. Tootsie's penchant for creating comfort extended to her porch, a cherished space built by her husband where she enjoyed countless moments, soaking in the warmth of the day and the love of her family.
A woman of great humor, Tootsie had an infectious laughter that resonated through her home and beyond. She had a unique ability to uplift those around her, leaving a trail of smiles in her wake. Her love for playful competition shone through in her passion for cornhole, where she and Steve proudly held the title of champions-an emblem of their spirited bond.
Betty's heart sparkled with excitement whenever she ventured to the casinos in Ruidoso, New Mexico, where she reveled in the thrill of the game. It was yet another realm in which her playful spirit could shine, reflecting her zest for life and the joy she derived from embracing every opportunity to connect with others.
As a devout Catholic, Betty drew strength and comfort from her faith, which guided her through life's experiences, imbuing her with a sense of peace and purpose. Her legacy will be honored through the lives of her grandchildren, who were among her proudest accomplishments, a living testament to the love and values she instilled in her family.
Tootsie is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Herlinda Jimenez; In-laws Manuel R. Gonzales and Sophia Padilla-Nelson; Son Steve Gonzales Jr; Grandkids: Stephen Gonzales and Maria Otero; Son-in-law Chris Otero; Sisters: Dolores, Yolanda and Olivia Jimenez; and Brother Frank Jimenez Jr.
Those left to cherish and honor Tootsie's memory are her husband, Steve Gonzales; Daughters Jeanette Gonzales and Sabrina Gonzales; Sister Della Castillo all of Roswell, New Mexico.
Tootsie will be missed deeply
A Rosary service will be held in her memory on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 9:30 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church, followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM. Family and friends will then gather for a Graveside Service at South Park Cemetery at 11 AM. After the Graveside the family will be meeting at the Eagles.
Services and arrangements are under the care of Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
