Barbara Sterrett-Reeves

May 24, 1937 — February 5, 2018

Barbara Sterrett Reeves was born Barbara Ann Pope in Ballinger, Texas on May 24, 1937. While her parents, Ann E. and Evert Pope resided down the road in Paint Rock.

She passed to her new life on February 5, 2018 from her home in Dexter, New Mexico. After her family (consisting of an older brother Tom David (TD), Barbara, and a younger brother August "Pete") moved from Paint Rock they resided in several cities in Texas including, Monahans (where she loved the school experience).

She subsequently graduated high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she met her husband to be Calvin Sterrett. The couple moved to Dexter, New Mexico to live at the family farm along with Calvin's father, Charles. At first Calvin did water well drilling and farming. They were blessed with the birth of three sons: Charles David, Ross Allen, and Marvin Wayne. In 1970 they started Sterrett Farms which is still an ongoing enterprise. Barbara suffered the loss of her middle son Ross in 1976 and her husband in 1985. During this time she decided to further her education by attending ENMU-R: later ENMU and then NMSU, taking a curriculum that included mathematics and accounting which she utilized in her role as President and bookkeeper in the office of Sterrett Farms.

She is survived by her husband Larry Reeves of the home, whom she married in 1995, her sons David and his wife Gina, Marvin and his wife Rhonda of Dexter, Logan Reeves
and wife Rachel of Victoria, Texas and daughter Toni Reeves of Roswell. Brother T.D. Pope and his wife Sue of San Angelo, Texas. (children-Jimmy, Becky, Bill). Also surviving are her grandchildren: Charli Sosa and husband Joe, Dennis Armstrong and wife Carolynn, Cassie Sterrett Bussey and husband Travis, Alyssa Handley and brother Allen Handley, Ross Sterrett, Jarrett Armstrong, Hunter Sterrett, Giselle Moody and husband Zane, Deyshia Johnson, Mandy Flores and husband Jerry. Greatgrandchildren: Riley, Gavin, Alex, Liam, Roxey, Scarlett, Tate, Grace, Haley, Alik, Aliel, and Andruw.

Predeceasing her was brother Pete of Brownwood, Texas who left his widow Helen Pope and their children, Sheila, Sandra, and Heather.

Barbara was a long-term member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dexter and for a time led the youth group. She also served on the Dexter School Board.

Honorary pallbearers are: Brad Houston, Babe Butts, Greg Krantz, Bruce Stubbs, Jimmy Pope, and Bill Pope.

There will be viewing with family at Ballard Funeral home from 3 PM - 5 PM on Thursday, February 08, 2018.

A celebration of her life and a memorable service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Dexter officiated by minister Steven Deutsch at 3 PM on Friday February 09, 2018.
