Together Once Again
Angelina Jimenez
With great sadness our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and catechism teacher Angelina Jiménez joined her Heavenly Father surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 30, 2019. Angelina was born in Roswell, N.M. to Pablo Calderón, Sr. and Candelaria Olguin Calderón on June 23, 1931. She spent her early life in San Patricio, N. M. When she married the love of her life, Pablin Jiménez, on July 7, 1949, they moved to Roswell, N.M. where they started their life together and raised their five children. She lived her life as a profoundly Catholic woman of God instilling in her family the values of love of God, faith in God, and the belief in His profound Mercy. Pablin and Angelina, also, instilled in their family a strong work ethic, perseverance, respect for others, to stand for your convictions, and the importance of family.
The Jiménez family had a long-established ministry and strong devotion to their Roman Catholic faith and the community of St. John’s. As a result, she became part of the St. John’s community and very active in all aspects of the St. John’s for 70 years. Angelina served as a catechist for the children of St. John’s for more than 40 years, served as a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe for 70 years and held offices at all levels in the organization, prepared her famous taquitos for the St. John’s Bingo nights, served as a parish council member, served as a Eucharistic minister, served as a lecturer, recited the Holy Rosary for deceased members of St. John’s, visited the sick, brought the Holy Eucharist to the homebound and to the elderly at Casa Maria. Until the age of 70, Angelina worked at the Roswell school’s cafeteria and was beloved by coworkers and the students she served. While at Edgewood Elementary, the students lovingly called her Grandma. She never met a stranger, was kind and loving to everyone she met, and saw the good in everyone. Her kindhearted treatment of people came from her faith because she often said they have the spirit of Jesus in their soul.
All her life, she cared for all of her family which included helping raise grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and Uncle Abeslin she called daddy. She is survived by daughter Pauline and husband Joe Ponce, daughter Gloria and husband Peter Alvarado; son Jimmy and wife Mary Ann Jiménez, and son Bert Jiménez and fiancé Lou Anne Olmedo; aunt Petra Miller; sister Annie Nuñez; sister-in-law Eva Jiménez; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, many friends and catechism students.
