Alta Miles

Alta Miles, 71, passed away on Saturday March 4, 2017 in Roswell, NM. She was born on December 27, 1945 to Charles and Alice Satterfield in Lordsburg, NM and moved with her family to Roswell in 1962.

Alta is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Alice Satterfield; brothers Benny, Charlie, and Henry Satterfield; and sisters Mary, and Pat.

Alta was the matriarch of her family. She was always ready to help her family whether doing their hair, taxes, or with anything they needed including homeschooling her grandchildren. Alta was known for being very outspoken and was a political activist. If you asked her a question you got a straight forward answer. She loved Facebook and all her followers including her granddaughter who said she would miss Alta's postings from her news feed.

Recently Alta began helping her granddaughter as she studied to become a nurse. She made it clear to her granddaughter that she was to go take those board exams and not stay behind to be with her. On the morning of Alta's passing, her granddaughter was in Albuquerque taking her board exam and passed them attributing that success to the loving support of her grandmother.

Alta is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Levi Miles of Roswell, NM; sons Jeff Miles of Roswell, NM, Donny (Maurie) Miles of Texas; daughter Sherry (Roddy) Leeder of Santa Fe, NM; brothers Bill Lowe of Phoenix, AZ, Jerry (Sandy) Satterfield of Phoenix, AZ, and Delbert (Sylvia) Satterfield of San Antonio, TX; and sister Shirley Graves of Roswell, NM. Alta is also blessed by 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Jeff Miles, Roddy Leeder, Donny Miles, Jeffrey Miles, Adam Sandoval, and Levi Leeder.
