Alfonso Marrufo, born on September 30, 1955, in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, departed this world on December 16, 2025, in Roswell, New Mexico. He leaves behind a legacy that resonates profoundly with all who were fortunate enough to know him. As a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, Alfonso's life was a rich tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an unwavering passion for music.
Known in his community as a vibrant radio DJ for KRDD Radio, Alfonso held a microphone not merely as a tool but as an extension of his spirit. The very essence of his being thrived on the rhythms and melodies he so adored, accompanied by the joy of sharing that passion with others. A true connoisseur of music, he traveled with bands, forever entranced by the lyrics that accompanied him through life. It is said that if you placed a microphone in his hand, it was a near impossibility to reclaim it, such was his love of performance and connection.
Alfonso's personality shone brightly through his great sense of humor and jovial spirit. He relished the moments spent with his family, often filling their lives with warmth and laughter through his delightful jokes. His love for the outdoors was manifested in his joy for gardening, where he found solace and serenity, nurturing both nature and his vibrant spirit.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sylvia Mendoza Marrufo, who stood by his side through the many chapters of their shared life. Together, they raised two daughters—Gabriela (Juan) and Sonya Faye (Israel), of Roswell, N.M.—who carry forward his legacy of love and laughter. Alfonso's kinship extended to his brothers, Alfred (Rocio) Marrufo, of Chaparral, N.M., and Alvaro (Flor) Marrufo, of Carlsbad, N.M., and to his cherished nephews and niece—Luis Marrufo, of Ft Worth, TX, Armando Marrufo, of Las Cruces, N.M., Christian Marrufo, of Chaparral, N.M., and Dulce Marrufo, of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, and the lively grandchildren: Xavier Trivizo, Marina, Marc, and Samadhi, all of Roswell. He was also the proud great-grandfather to Legend, Jessa, and Makai, of Roswell, each a continuation of his life’s vibrant melody.
Though Alfonso is preceded in death by his father, Alfonso Marrufo, his mother, Luz Elena Marrufo, and beloved relatives, Alvaro Marrufo, Armando Marrufo, and Jorge Marrufo, their spirits remain intertwined with his, reminding us that love transcends even the greatest of distances.
A Memorial Service to honor Alfonso's life will be held at Ballard Funeral Chapel in Roswell on January 31, 2026, at 5 PM. In this coming together, friends and family will celebrate the remarkable man who dedicated his life to music, laughter, and above all, his beloved family.
Alfonso Marrufo's vibrant spirit, infectious humor, and deep love for those around him will forever echo in our hearts. As we reflect on his life, let us carry forward his passion for music, our laughter, and the love that binds us together, honoring his memory in our lives.
