Inez Robertson

INEZ BAKER ROBERTSON

Inez was born July 4, 1919, in Dallas County, Texas, in the camp at the Texas Company Refinery to Roy Baker and Margaret Dyson Baker. She has one brother, Roy Dyson Baker and his children, Bonnie, Richard Roy, Billie Max and Bobby.

The family moved to Ranger, Texas, in 1930, where Inez graduated High School in 1937 as the Valedictorian. Immediately after her graduation, her family moved to Breckenridge, Texas. The next year she attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

She was employed by an attorney in Breckenridge in 1938 at the huge salary of

$25 a month. While working there, she was offered a job at the Texas Company Refinery at the camp where she was born==Salary $125 per month. She couldn't wait to get to Dallas.

Christmas Day, 1941, she married Fred Ward who was Secretary to Congressman Nat Patton of Crockett, Texas; and worked in the Congressman's office for several months after he entered the service. She returned to Dallas and again worked in the Office at the Texas Company Refinery. When he returned from the War, they returned To Washington where they worked for Senator W. Lee O'Daniel.

When their home town of Breckenridge offered him the position as Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, they moved back to Breckenridge. She worked as secretary in the office of TP Coal & Oil. She was one of the founders of a new social club there. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years in Breckenridge and in Arlington, Texas, where they moved in 1950.

While in Arlington, she served on the Library Board, was one of three women who started the "Newcomers' Club" and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She also worked for a residential development company in Arlington, and for Temco, And for Texas Instruments. Here she was on the ground floor of the development of a system of writing purchase orders in which keypunch, card punch, card reader, calculator and typewriter were involved. People came from everywhere to see how it worked.

She and her husband divorced. Sometime later, she met Richard D. (Riccy) Robertson on a blind date. Two weeks and two days later, they married on March 5, 1955. March 5, 2000 will be their 45th Anniversary.

They have one son, Richard D. Robertson, Jr. Inez has a brother, Roy Dyson Baker of Louisiana and his children Bonnie, Richard Roy, Billy Max, and Bobby.

She is active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She belongs to Roswell Chapter No. 10 and Lake Arthur No. 24. She is the secretary of Lake Arthur No. 24. A few years ago, she was a Grand Officer in the organization.

She has had a long and interesting working experience. After moving to Roswell in 1970, she has been employed by ENMU-R as head secretary in the Student Personnel Office, for a short time in the Athletic Department of the RISD, 16 years with Security

National Bank (which became SunWest Bank) from which she retired in 1988. After

Two years of retirement, she worked the whole program with the 1990 Census; in August 1990, she began working part-time with the Ballard Funeral Home and is still there; she was hired for three week at Bama Realty to post some books and stayed three years; she was at the Refuge of Battered Adults for three years, and has been with Mentor of New Mexico since May, 1998.She and her husband served three years with the New Mexico State Defense Force where she was a First Lieutenant and he was a Major Memorial Contributions to the First United Methodist Church and Cowboy Bell.
