Barbara Johnson

September 12, 1932 — July 11, 2019

Barbara Jo (BJ) Johnson went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the age of 86.  Her wit and sense of humor will be missed by those who knew her.  She was a resident of Heartfelt Manor in Roswell for the last two years and has been a long time resident of Roswell.  She was born to Joham and Ethel Leferink in Casper, WY on September 12, 1932 and soon thereafter moved to Albuquerque where she lived until college graduation, followed by a two-year stint in California during Buzz’s Air Force service.  She loved California where she spent summers as a youth.

She earned her undergraduate degree in Home Economics from the University of New Mexico in 1954 where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and the student council. She enjoyed arts, crafts, and playing cards and mahjong with her many friends.  She loved to sew, embroider, knit, and quilt.  She spoke fondly of the cruises that she and Buzz took traveling the world in the 1980’s and 1990’s with a large group of close Roswell friends.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, S. P. Buzz Johnson III, son S.P. Chip Johnson IV (Lori) of Houston, Texas including grandchildren Elise (Evans Swann), Layne and Julia and 2 great grandsons, and son Joel Johnson (Peg) of Columbine Valley, Colorado including grandchildren Rachel and Mitchell.

A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family.  The family wishes to thank the many family and neighbors for their prayers over the years including many caregivers and Heartfelt Manor of Roswell.  For those who wish to remember BJ with a charitable donation, please direct them to the Assurance Home in Roswell.
